Principal’s Update #2 Term 3

NAIDOC Week

Last week, we celebrated a truly impressive NAIDOC Week at KPS, thanks to the incredible coordination by Roxy and her team of passionate educators. The week kicked off with an unforgettable performance by the dancers, and I have to say, the Willy Wagtail song and dance stole my heart—those little birds are my absolute favourite! The highlight, though, had to be watching Mrs. Mac and Mr. Grace bust out some seriously impressive dance moves. A huge thank you to everyone who helped prepare the delicious food for our school picnic; it was a real treat.

I want to give a special shout-out to Roxy, whose passion and dedication truly shine through in everything she does. We’re incredibly lucky to have her at KPS, keeping the fire burning with pride and embodying this year’s NAIDOC motto, 'Blak, Loud and Proud.' And a heartfelt thanks to her wonderful husband for his time and the beautiful sounds of the didgeridoo.

Interschool Cross Country

On Friday, our dedicated team of students took part in the Interschool Cross Country, bringing home an impressive third place overall! This is a fantastic achievement, especially considering the challenges of competing on an unfamiliar course. We’re proud of every single student who represented KPS, and a special congratulations to those who earned medals. It’s not easy to compete at this level, and your hard work and perseverance paid off.

A big thank you to Mr D for his tireless efforts in coordinating the event and for being there at 5 am to help set everything up. Your dedication to our students and school community does not go unnoticed!

Centre for Excellence

Next week, Mrs Higgins, Ms Skjold, Miss Branley, and I will be out for two days as part of the Centre for Excellence Program. We’ll be diving into some professional learning and spending a day at Greenfields Primary School to observe high-quality teaching practices. During our first session in Week 1, we were thrilled to see that we are on the right track with our explicit teaching model.

Last Friday, we had the pleasure of hosting Shannon Wright, Principal of Greenfields PS, who visited our school to observe our teachers in action. He was incredibly impressed with the structures we have in place, and we’re excited to bring back more insights to further enhance our teaching practices at KPS.
